Our
first announcement about Pastor Weiser's passing came through the
WEISER Surname Message Board from Laura McQuaid, Board Member,
Weiser Family Association, cross posted here:
"It is with a great degree of sadness that I relate that
Fred
Weiser, the decades long-time
President of the
Weiser Family Association, died Monday, January 26, 2009 in
the morning at
York Hospital. The memorial service is going to be held next
week at his church in
York County, but the plans aren't yet finalized, to my
knowledge. I'll post it when I get the information. To even try
to summarize everything that Fred did and was is impossible for
me, but I can easily tell you that there would not have been a
Weiser Family Association without him. It is because of him
that so many of us know more about our
Weiser heritage and have books and tons of data from all the
years of Fred's work. He was famous in PA history circles and
was considered the greatest authority on PA Fraktur and PA
German history, in addition to being the premier expert on
the
Weiser family and it's origins in Germany. Personally, I
loved the man, as did everyone who got to know him. We have lost
a great treasure.
The
Weiser Family Association was, aside from his ministry, his
life's work and passion. It is his legacy and we will keep it
going and thriving. If you are presently a member, please update
your dues if you're an annual member. I noticed that some folks
are very far behind on their dues. If you are a lifer or an
annual member, please make sure the Association has your current
address. The Association has a new
President, Tim
Weiser, who was elected at the last meeting we had with Fred
in November. I am confident Tim will be a fine
President. We have a good Board of people who love history
and love the Family Association. We are committed to this
Association continuing for many decades to come."
The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday,
Feb. 3, 2009, at
Christ Lutheran Church, 29 S. George St., York, PA.
